Pen On Fire Writing Competition & Workshop
Our flagship program, POF, is an annual contest and skill training event for writers in Nigeria, designed to nurture writers’ talent, hone creative writing skills and provide recognition.
With 6 successful editions so far and over 1000 graduates from the workshop, Pennacle is empowering writers through POF, with invaluable resources, expert training and a supportive community. We welcome aspiring wordsmiths, seasoned scribes and everything in between; whether your aim is to publish a book, enhance your skills, profit with your skills or explore new genres.
About POF
The program combines a writing contest with an intensive workshop.
Our aim is to uncover the next literary sensation while helping writers blend their skills and talents with artistic intent, and inspiring them to advance their careers creatively and professionally.
Participants will engage in a 2-stage writing marathon, face eviction based on their performance, and take part in a rigorous workshop that features tutorials and expert-led, pre-recorded lessons, exercise and interactive sessions.
Selected winners and runners up receive cash prizes and other benefits, and winning entries are published in the July – December Literesque Magazine Issue.
Program Structure
POF is a three-stage program running over 3 to 5 weeks, combining competition and learning
Post Entry Test & First Evictions
Contestants who pass the entry screening submit original pieces based on prompts. Performance is evaluated and lower-performing participants are evicted.
Finalists Selection
Remaining contestants compete for a spot in the finals. Submissions are evaluated, and finalists are chosen.
Finals
Finalists submit their last task. Winners and runners-up are selected based on originality, quality, and adherence to guidelines.
The Workshop
The workshop runs alongside the competition. Following a structured scheme of work, prepared based on the theme of the edition, featuring pre-recorded bite-sized lessons, Q&A sessions, exercises, and group discussions. Workshop participation is optional but highly recommended for learning and growth.
Mode of Participation
This programme is virtual. All activities take place on our e-learning platform, and other private channels.
How It Works:
1. Register for POF and gain access to your participant dashboard.
2. Receive program schedule, contest prompts submission guidelines, and workshop materials.
3. Follow the order of events, respond accordingly, track your progress through each stage, request and receive feedback, celebrate successes and network with fellow writers, mentors, and professionals.
